My Granddaughter, Jen Nave, just lost her husband to cancer. He had Leukemia.
To read her Blog and if you are so moved, a donation button has been added. Please Pray for the courageous couple. Jen is a Christians (as was Pat) and trusting in the Lord to lead her as what to do next. As with any tragic disease, they are in financial trouble. The donate button is on this blog:

http://patnave.blogspot.com/

They have a 4 year old son and a baby just 2 months old. Be sure to read all the tabs, she goes into detail about their family, their treks across the country, trying to find some help for Pat. We lost him on February14th. He was surrounded by his family and friends in the hospital.

Prayers are welcome and if you find it in your heart to use the donate button, all contributions will be appreciated. this has been a terrible blow to the family and extended family.

Thank you and God Bless you!

Skeeter
John 3:16

Time to Post and Udate

It seems all I do is apologize for not posting sooner. A lot has happened since the last post. Well, nothing monumental, just everyday happenings.

I seem to have more flare-ups (Rheumatoid Arthritis) as time goes by. Trying to get my meds straightened out. They pulled the pain pill that was actually helping the pain. Now we are searching for one that will work and not be too expensive, habit forming or bad side effects.

In December, I broke off a front tooth. I went to the dentist and had the root pulled and they took impressions for a partial. While waiting for the space to heal up, I broke the one next to it, had to have that root pulled. I am running out of teeth to anchor the partial. This past week, I got the partial for the uppers. I am a gagger, I can't even let the dentist muck around in my mouth with out gagging. Well, I guess you know what the partial does?? But I am going to do my best to wear them all the time. I do take them out at night, but trying to wear them during the day. It will take some getting use to. The spot where the tooth came out last week, is still sore, so the partial is uncomfortable. Still gagging, but not as bad as yesterday.

Thanks for reading, be sure to check out my granddaughter's blog, she just lost her husband to cancer, please Pray for her and her two babies.

God Bless you,
Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? On his way he picked off the third hen. I am so upset. We were wondering what was getting them, but now we know. I am not sure what we can do about it, we don't have a secure pen for them, they have always been free range. We expected some loss in the winter, but not that many all in a few days, or a week.

Don't know what to do about my egg customers, too late in the season to hatch more, (maybe, let me think on that one) Maybe I can find some grown or nearly grown hens to purchase. But on the other hand, do want to set up a Fox buffet?? I hate it when I loose chickens. They were all hatched and raised by us, they all have names, it is hard to loose them.

Well, that is my day, week or whatever, but on goes life!

God Bless you all.

Skeeter

Nope I didn't get lost!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VlweA4VmlNM/S_ltjuZ5U5I/AAAAAAAAAFQ/6wDSmZMtN54/s320/embrodery+snowflakes+005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474527282565043090" />
It has been a tough year, with my RA and other medical problems, but I think I am doing a lot better this year.

We have 13 chickens, two of which are roosters, we lost 2 so far over the winter. Just this last week, a varmint, yet to be named took out one of my black autralorp hens, all we found were the feathers.

Randy has a new mountain bike and he has been riding the mountain trails and enjoying every ride. I got a new embroidery machine and am trying to learn how to use it. It does everything but whistle DIXIE and I think if I knew how, it would do that! I have been making lacy snowflakes and lacy bookmarks. I am also taking classes at Sew Crazy in Chassell. Naomi is a good teacher, it just takes me a lot longer to learn these days.

It is a beautiful day in the U.P. so I think we will go for a ride in the "bush". We had over a foot of snow night before last! The temperature dipped down to minus 15 degrees! I think that is the lowest all winter. I hear that Lake Superior is nearly frozen across. That does not happen very often. I have been here for 11 years and I don't think it has happened more than once since I been here.

<img src="http://skeetersfinecrafts.com/myphotos/movinsnow2-27-09.jpg"alt="Movin' Snow!">
<img src="http://skeetersfinecrafts.com/myphotos/onefootsnowstorm_2-27-09.jpg"alt="Our One Foot Snow Storm!">

Just to think that Daylight Savings tims starts on March 8th! But the good news is that Easter and Spring are not far behind! Just have to get Lake Superior UNfrozen, and get some of this snow melted and I maybe can see my daffodils by mid-May sometime. But it is the U.P. so we should be use to this kind of winter.

Until next time, here is a Bible verse that I read everyday to remind me that I am not alone and that God is with me all the time.

~ Have not I commanded thee? What a Year...so far!

Well, we go from California fires to an accident in January!

I fell on the ice on January 11, 2008 and broke the little bone about 3 inches above the ankle. I have been in an "air boot" cast ever since. I had x-rays at 6 weeks and the doctor said it was not healed all the way yet, so three more weeks in the air boot. I am thankful that it is an air boot and that I can take it off for a few minutes every day. I think I injured my ankle too, as it is very painful to walk. I have been walking with the air boot for a couple of weeks now. I go back for more x-fays next week. What a way to start 2008.

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so there are many days I cannot get around with out the help of a wheelchair. When I broke my leg, I used the wheelchair to get around, until I could walk on the cast. I do not "DO" crutches. I am a menace to everything and everyone near me. It is a sight to behold for sure, that is if you can watch from a safe distance, behind cover, just in case I head your way! So it is safer for me and others around me, to use the wheelchair.

I have been putting a lot of puzzles together, I love jigsaw puzzles, and have discovered a new series of puzzles. Wysocki, both Charles and Heronim. The are great artists and now the paintings are available in jigsaw puzzles. I like the old Americana and Hometown collection, with lots of horse and buggies, American flags. The Hometown collection is a lot of fun, Heronim hides a stylized cat in every puzzle and it is great fun to find the cat!

Seattle

I had just set 10 eggs in the incubator when I had my accident. I was not able to tend the incubator, so my husband, Randy, took care of the eggs, turning them three to five times a day, monitoring the temp's and humidity. Well, he did a good job, he hatched 7 of the 10 eggs and they are growing like a weed. We put them out with the other chickens this past week. I know! We kept them in the house/utility room too long, we have had a very cold winter, the temp's have been below zero degrees way too many nights and sometimes not even breaking zero throughout the day. The Magnificent Seven flourished and grew to be quite the flock.

The Magnificent Seven

The Flock

The eggs I set were from my laying hens, no particular breed, but the hens are good layers. Evidently Rusty the Rooster was up to his job too!

Before I had my accident, I had ordered some Australorp eggs to be delivered the last part of January or first of February, well, needless to say, I had to put that order on hold. Luckily the gal I ordered them from was very understanding and held the eggs for me. They will be arriving the week after Easter. So...... Here we go again.........! In Randy's words, "OH BOY!" One lesson we learned, do not hatch eggs in the dead of winter in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Thank the Lord, I have a very patient husband.

I hope your winter was better than mine. I usually like winters in the U.P. I don't go out much in the winter, just to Church and grocery shopping once in a while, but I could go if I wanted to. With a broken leg, a clumsy air-boot cast, it is more trouble to get ready to go out and I am very leery of the ice and snow, I sure don't want to fall again. Maybe I am getting cabin fever, or maybe I should become a hermit! With the price of gas, I think the latter is the way it is going to be! Just got to get me some more puzzles!

Take care and until next time, May the Good Lord Bless and Keep YOU!

Skeeter

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://skeeterj.blogspot.com/2008/03/events-of-january-2008-what-yearso-far.html' title='Events of January 2008. It was not a very good trip, we got caught between the fires, experienced winds up to 60 miles an hour, we lost power in the motel, plus all the smoky skies. Here is a picture of the wind and trees out our motel window early Sunday morning, the 21st of October.

About noon this was the same tree with the smoky skies.

The best part of the trip was the new baby. Ayden Gee-Ming Bell is 6 weeks old now and what a cutie. THAT is the only reason that I would ever go back to the L.A. area! I was near panic as we packed everything up in the rental car and headed out, trying to make it closer to the airport, so that we could fly out the next morning.

As it turned out, the fires in Moorpark and Camarillo were under control that day, so we went back to the motel that night. On Saturday, we had been to Malibu and across the Malibu canyon road. We seen the "castle" and other places that burned the next day.

As we left on the plane the next morning, we could see the smoke to the south, we didn't know about the fires near San Diego at that time. The plane trip was fun, except the 6 plus hours we had to spend in the Chicago airport. They extended the time by 15 to 20 minutes for the entire 3 plus hours. We knew there would be a layover of about 3 hours. Needless to say, I was happy to get back to the good old Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Home never looked so good.

We are now safe in the woods, getting ready to hunker down for the winter. We have lots to do before the first snowfall, which could be as early as next week. The chicken house is almost ready for our flock, so they should be toasty warm all winter. We have our fire wood in. Just a few things about the yard and garden that could have some attention, but if we don't get to it, there is always next year.

I will post new items to my Skeeter's Fine Crafts Blog in the next day or so. Skeeter's Fine Crafts Blog

So until next time, may the Good Lord Bless and Keep Thee!

Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever. Lots has happened in THAT long time. I am new medications, that seem to be working, but I still have a lot of problems.

The weather has cooled off, even though it didn't get very warm this past summer. This coming from someone from the middle of Montana! August was very wet and cool. The L'Anse Farmers Market never offered the vegetables that they usually have.

Speaking of the Community Farmers Market, Randy and I had two tables this year. One for Skeeter's Fine Crafts and Randy took care of the Zeba United Methodist Indian Mission table. We had a bake sale every weekend, plus we had donations of "white elephant" type items. We raised over $1100 for the Church. We were delighted. I sold lots of Tater Baker Bags and other crafts. It was a very good season. We have one more craft show this fall, it is in November. I usually have good luck at that one.

There are other new things at the Camp Bell! In August, there was a guy selling chickens at the farmers market. I don't know how it happened, but we came home with 3 hens and a rooster. Now mind you, we don't have a farm like place. We live in the woods, no out buildings, sheds or the like. Now we have 4 chickens and no place to keep them. So the past few weeks we have spent building a shelter for them. I hope we can keep them warm through the UP winters! We are getting 2 eggs a day on a regular basis. One hen is has not started laying, but I expect she will any day, (week) now.

I couldn't sleep tonight, so I am up messing on the computer. Time to go back to bed. I have starting treatment. I have my good days and bad days, but I am going to start making the sandals again, slowly at first, but see if I can get back to making them on a regular schedule. I won't be as quick on delivery times as I use to be, but hopefully I will get back up to speed. I wanted to let a few of my customers know that I plan on making the sandals again.
Thanks for your Prayers and good wishes.

I have added a couple of new lines to my website, Personalized Santa Letters to your Child, Stuff a Friend and American Stuff a Bear. Please check them out.

It has a been a rough year. I became sick last year about this time, a cough that wouldn't let me sleep, which I still have....... still can't sleep through the night and I had horrible joint pain. The doctors kept telling me it was arthritis, after all look at my age! I finally got an appointment with a Rhuematoligist and she confirmed what I suspected all along. My time on the computer is limited, so as a result I have really neglected this blog. I hope to get back to it on a regular basis.

In March my granddaughter, Jennifer had a baby boy, Keegan, he is 6 1/2 months old now, I really can't believe it. I am sad because I have not seen him yet. They live in Montana, I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so far away.

If you have read this far................ The last hummingbird was seen on September 13, 2005. It is sad to see them go, but I am looking forward to the snow season. All in all, we had a nice summer, not as warm as I am use to, coming from Montana! But here we have seasons, well, at least two seasons............shovel and swat!

I had a real good run at the L'Anse Farmer's Market and Craft Fair. I averaged about $100 a day, that is good for this small town! I sold all my Sour Dough Starter, so am in the process of getting more ready to sell online on my website.

My Prayers go out to all that are affected by these storms. It has affected all of us, whether we live near the gulf states or as far north as I live, we are Praying for all!

I have been running Charity Auctions on Overstock, donating the money to UMCOR. The key word is Katrina, but I am going to change the wording of the auctions to include all the hurricane victims, and the gulf states. If you want to learn what and who UMCOR is, just do a search in your favorite search engine.

This is from the UMCOR site:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UMCOR Begins Long-Term Recovery Efforts
United Methodist Committee on Relief aid workers and executives are on site in a three-state area of the hurricane-stricken Gulf Coast region as well consulting with other areas participating in the relief efforts. The goal of UMCOR's initial actions is to empower survivors with comfort, tools, and other assistance as they plan their own recovery.

For more than 50 years, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has helped to heal the hurts of humanity in nearly 100 countries - providing relief in disaster areas, aiding refugees and confronting the challenge of world hunger and poverty. UMCOR is a not-for-profit humanitarian agency of The United Methodist Church.

Your tax-deductible donation check for a specific disaster, which usually is assigned an Advance number, (Advance #982523) may be sent to UMCOR through a local United Methodist church, or by mailing the check directly to:

UMCOR
Room #330
475 Riverside Drive
New York, NY 10115.

Of such donations, 100 percent to the designated emergency response UMCOR also takes credit card donations. Call 1-800-554-8583.

Some individuals or church groups elect to donate goods to be shipped to disaster areas, where UMCOR operates disaster warehouses. Used clothing usually is not wanted or needed. You may call UMCOR Sager Brown at 1-800-554-814-8765 to obtain a list of needed items.

You may volunteer time to help disaster victims cleanup and rebuild. Whatever your skills and experiences, there is a disaster recovery task for you. To volunteer, call: 1-800-554-918-3100.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought this was important to post here, as there are so many "charities" collecting for the gulf states, a lot of times we don't know how much of the monies is actually being received by the ones that need it. I like UMCOR because 100% is for the relief of these disasters.

I donate to our local United Methodist Church, you do not need to be a Methodist to help out. They are also collecting "Flood Kits" and other kits that will be needed in disasters such as the hurricanes, just check the website to see what is needed. I don't believe this is a denomination/religious thing, but a way to help those in need. I hope others will join the effort to help these storm victims. UMCOR collects year around and they are usually first on the site of disasters, offering relief.

I am surprised there are not more charity auctions for the Golf States Hurricane victims on overstock, in fact, I am surprised at how few charity auctions that have bids.

We have almost all our winter wood in, just about a half-tier to go. You can really feel fall in the air. We have had a fire a couple time in the past week, mostly because it was raining and the fire seems to dry things out, and we like the atmosphere! Once we have a fire all the time, I will finally be warm again! Seems like the only time I am warm is when the fire is going.

The biggest reason that I am happy that fall is here.................. REDWINGS HOCKEY!!! Yes Hockey is back! I watched the Detroit Tigers all season, but they are winding down, and hockey is getting ready to start up again. I missed them last year and I am glad they are back, finally!

I have been busy trying to get my stock built up for the Tater Baker Bags, they are always a good seller during the Christmas season. I have one craft bazaar this fall, it is November 12th, so I have a little time to get things stocked back up. All the things that I sold at the Farmer's Market and didn't have time to make more. Barefoot Sandals always do good for stocking stuffers and gifts. I am looking forward to a great season on Overstock auctions!

Okay, this is enough for this time, please check out my auctions on Overstock.com and all the other TOASA member's auctions.

If you have read this far................ THANK YOU!

GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU until next time...............
Remember
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Skeeter
47harleygal
My Overstock Auctions

Guess Summer is over!

I have been so busy learning how to set up my Blog, I forgot to write in it! Well, what can I say?

Summer is over, we had a couple warm days in the early part of August and the last of July, then it cooled down and we ever had a frost warning earlier this week. I brought all my plants in, to protect them from the frost.... I even managed to bring in a tree frog, I found him in my computer room early the next morning, sure scared the "waddin's" out of me. I didn't have my glasses on and seen a lump on the carpet.......then it moved! Yikes, first thought...... a mouse! I am deathly afraid of mice, dead or alive! Randy came running and caught it and put it outside. I have not found any other hitchhikers yet.

The temperature is 55 degrees this morning, you can feel the coolness in the air. Randy brought in the first fall leaf and the hummingbirds are getting ready to fly south. I look forward to winters, that is when I can finally get warmed up. We heat by wood heat and the house is always toasty! The summers are so cool and short, nothing like the summers in Montana. I miss the heat!

August 13th was our 3rd wedding anniversary, we celebrated by going out to eat. We had a great fish supper at the Baraga Lakeside Inn. On Sunday we went to Church, then decided to blow off the day and drive to Copper Harbor to have my very favorite sandwich, "The Mariner" at the Mariner North. I use to get a sandwich in Montana, called the Montana Slammer, well, Mariner's North has one very much like that, it is very good. We treated ourselves to a two day celebration, because we both have been working very hard this summer and with my illness, being down in June, we didn't do much this summer.

I have been selling at the L'Anse Farmer's Market/Craft Fair since the first Saturday in August. It is held every Saturday, rain or shine. So far, we have lucked out, no rain and beautiful blue sky with a gorgeous view of the Lake. Sales have been good, I look forward to getting out of the woods every week. I have not done any craft shows, since moving here in 1998, to speak of. There is one little craft show in Aura every year, except last year. Not sure if they will have it or not this year, as the turnout was very dismal. I am happy with my sales over the past 3 weekends. I hope the weather holds out. I don't mind cloudy, but the rain and wind is something else. I don't want all my crafts to get wet or blow away. My Tater Baker Bags are selling good. I packaged up some sourdough starter and sold almost all that I had. Now I am drying some more for this weekend. My cool ties did sell, but mostly to tourists who are headed for warmer places.

The website is creating more sales all the time, I am happy with that. I still have an Ebay presence, but I am concentrating on Overstock. I had a sale yesterday! I try to keep about 70 auctions running at a time. I am converting all the auctions over to "TOASA Free Shipping with MIM" My auctions look like I have a lot of the same thing, but I have over 50 prints for the Tater Baker Bags and over 75 bead color which can be combined to make countless combinations. Thank goodness for the wedding parties, they have sustained my barefoot sandal business all summer, now there are a lot of fall weddings coming up, easing me into the Christmas season. The Barefoot Sandals are a good seller year round. I am looking forward to a great holiday selling season.

Okay, what should I name this book?????
Until next time............
remember.....
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Skeeter/47harleygal

Summer has finally hit the U.P. It is about 94 degrees today. There is a little wind, but gorgeous blue sky. We will probably go to Lake Superior, Saari Road tonight, to let the dogs swim and Randy too! The last time we were down there, the flies were so bad, we all got bits, Maggie getting the worst ones. Her face swelled up and she looked miserable for several days. Then she was full of scabs for a week or so. Don't know if she will want to go again or not. Can dogs remember??

I had a space at the Farmer's Market on L'Anse Waterfront (Park) last Saturday, sold for 3 hours, until noon. I did real well. Sold Tater Baker Bags and Barefoot Sandals. Sold a few yo-yo balloons and some cool ties. I was happy with the results, plan on going again next Saturday and throughout August and September as weather permitting.

Well, off to find a cool spot, more later!
Skeeter/47harleygal

Life in the UP

Welcome to my BLOG!

Oh my gosh........ I can't believe I have let this Blog slide for so long. I am trying to schedule myself and my time so that I can take care of my auction, website and everything else in between! I am trying to learn about RSS feeds now. Always something. I gave up on optimizing my website content, gave me headaches and after new glasses, a new monitor, $$$$$$$ spent on doctors, I finally decided it was the stress of trying to learn about SEO. I left it and now I am listed pretty high on the search engines. Just search for "barefoot sandals" and see where I am. My business is picking up, I have added colorful, glittery, glow in the dark nail polish to be sold with my barefoot sandals on the auctions sites.

I am selling on Overstock, Ebay, and I have some things on Bidchaser and The Auction Man (TAM) I have sold some things on Bidchaser, but nothing on TAM. Overstock is real good right now. Click on the Rocket Logo to check out my auctions, via RSS (keeping fingers crossed that it works)

Oh okay, I guess that just links you to the rocket site and if you have an account you can see my stuff. The temperature was about 10 degrees all day. We went to Church, the snow was heave on silver River Hill, but had diminished by the time we got to our woods. Ron called in the afternoon. He is sending me some copies of some papers that belonged to Grandma J. A family tree copy of the Pusey side of the family.
Randy shoveled the main part of the roof, he started yesterday, and worked more on it today.
